Title: Summer Camp Counselor
Term: Temporary, non-exempt hired as a weekly position plus two days training and camp set-up; Summer Camp program runs June 28 – August 6, 2010; Mondays – Fridays, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM; Mandatory Staff Training June 24 & 25, 9 AM - 4 PM
Wages: $8.00 per hour; no benefits, no paid vacation, no paid holidays
Qualifications: Completed eleventh grade or equivalent. College prep, Education, Art Education or Visual & Performing Arts majors preferred. Has experience working or volunteering with children and youth.
Job Summary: The Camp Counselor is supervised by and reports to the Camp Coordinator. Camp Counselors are directly responsible for the campers during the daily camp schedule. Counselors plan and facilitate all activities provided for the campers for each week program.
Specific Duties include:
Work with the Camp Coordinator and other Counselors to facilitate the weekly schedule and daily aspects of the six week camp program for children ages 5-14 yr olds that relate to the camp themes and the overall HYS mission. Assist with Counselor-In-Training Camp as needed.
Be responsible for the campers as their Counselor each week. Plan out and lead the campers’ daily activities. Be in daily communication with the Camp Coordinator and other Counselors of your plans and activities with your assigned campers. Work as an assistant to the weekly Program Specialist(s) with the campers during the Special Program times each day as needed.
Lead campers in a positive indoor/outdoor enrichment day camp experience. Provide camper experiences with an attitude of caring and enthusiasm. Be an exemplary role model in personal conduct, language and relational behaviors with the campers and staff.
Prepare and maintain all camp supplies, materials and program resources as need for daily activities.
