Title:                Summer Camp Early Childhood Counselor

Term:               Temporary, non-exempt 5 weeks, June 21 – July 23, 2010
5 days a week Mondays – Fridays 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM; Mandatory Staff Training June 24 & 25, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Wages:            $9.00 per hour; no benefits, no paid vacation, no paid holidays

Qualifications:  A minimum one year of college with a major in Early Childhood/Elementary Education or Art Education Major with Early Childhood/Elementary emphasis and/or teaching experience with young children. Associates degree in Early Childhood preferred.

Job Summary:  The Early Childhood Camp Counselor works directly with the Director of Education & Public Programs and the Camp Coordinator to develop, schedule, plan and run the Yellow Springs Summer Camp program for 5 & 6 yr olds.

Specific Duties include: 

Work with the Director of Education & Public Programs and the Camp Coordinator to plan for and facilitate all aspects of the four week early childhood summer camp program.

Be the lead Counselor responsible for the campers. Create and organize the summer camp weekly and daily schedules for children ages 5 & 6 yr olds that relate to the camp themes and the overall HYS mission.  Work with and supervise the assisting Counselor or Jr. Counselor. 

Coordinate weekly and daily activities with the Camp Coordinator and other Counselors as need be.  Assist in training, and supervising all Counselors. Be an exemplary role model in personal conduct, language and relational behaviors with the campers and staff.

Prepare and maintain all camp supplies, materials and program resources as need for daily activities.
