Historic Yellow Springs depends upon an extraordinary core of over 200 volunteers for its events, tours, and day-to-day operations. Internship Opportunities


Archives/History Intern

Volunteer position: Benefits include working in a nonprofit professional organization; a formal evaluation, reference referral and recommendation letter. 
Limited stipends available check with your college or university.

Preferred qualifications: Majors in Anthropology/Archaeology, Education, History or Museum Studies.  Courses and/or interest in American History and/or Environmental Education a plus.  Intern has a desire to gain hands-on work experience in a non-profit organization which focuses on the Arts, Education, History and the Environment.

Flexible hours: Fall, Winter & Spring semesters are for 7 - 14 hours per week. Summer semester is for 14-28 hours per week.  Interns need to be available on some evenings and weekends to be arranged before Internship starts. 

Internship Summary:  The Archives/History Intern works directly with the Archivist to develop, plan, facilitate and produce a variety of educational programs, events, exhibits, research and written materials. S/he may work with HYS staff and volunteers on art and collections exhibitions, creating and leading group tours and programs, environmental programs and assisting with developing major arts, educational and/or historical events.  All Internships are tailored to the individual and the specific needs of HYS at that time.

Specific Aspects of an Internship may include: 

Work with the Archivist as a mentor to plan for and facilitate all aspects of HYS’s archives, education and public programs.

Develop and facilitate archive materials, manage collections and/or education programs and tours for pre-school age through senior adults.  Lead Tours in the Orientation Exhibit and on the Discovery Trail.

Design, implement and complete a research or educational project that matches the needs and mission of Historic Yellow Springs.
