Explore Yellow Springs History like never before!
Over nearly three centuries, the village of Yellow Springs has experienced a wild and intriguing history. Now, the History and Children’s Discovery Trails provide the best way to explore and understand this fascinating slice of America’s past.
Here’s how it works:
Families/ Home schools
Come to the Lincoln Building to pick up your History brochure for adults and Discovery brochure and Passport booklet for children. View the large map in the foyer or on the front porch and plan which of the 6 Trail Site Locations you want to walk to first. At each Trail Site location you will find a large metal sign with illustrations describing one of the eras of Yellows Spring’s history. Also at each location is an activity box that contains a stamp and stamp pad that corresponds to the children’s brochure. Stamp the passport at each of the 6 Trail Site Locations. Family members can read to each other the sections of the brochures and the signs that describe a portion of Yellow Springs diverse and exciting past. In good weather, bring a lunch to enjoy at the picnic tables by the old pool house. Donation of $2.00 per person to cover cost of materials is appreciated.
Community Groups
Come and enjoyed a fun and educational outing for your community, civic or church group. Please call in advance and let us know when you’d like to come. We will make sure there are enough brochures and passports for your group. A staff member or volunteer host will greet you and give you a brief orientation to Yellow Springs and some of the highlights you will discover as you explore the Trail.
Donation of $2.00 per person to cover cost of materials is appreciated.
School Groups
Teachers please call in advance to reserve a day for an exciting fieldtrip for your students. When you arrive a staff member will greet your class and give you a brief orientation to Yellow Springs and how to use the brochure, passport and map. This field trip is an excellent cross-curricular learning experience for your students in history, the arts, and natural sciences. Self Guided Field Trip is free with a materials cost of $2.00 per student. Ask about adding a topic related workshop experience for your students!
Workshops are an additional $50 per class.
