Each session is a hands-on exploration focusing on a particular medium such as pastel, watercolor, acrylic, printmaking and mixed media.

We will explore the landscape in and around Chester Springs. In this class you can learn techniques of observation that will broaden your vision and enable you to compare color, and construct a painting that is unified in its qualities of light and shadow. Learn to arrange your composition to maximize the pictorial effect of your subject. Demonstrations will be conducted on simplifying and blocking in the elements with an open palette and loose brushwork. There will be a model 3 times to explore the relationship between the figure and the landscape. Other topics such as scale, perspective, and materials will be covered. A materials list is provided.

This class presents the opportunity to draw, paint, and sculpt from the figure without instruction. Poses, whether croquis or extended, will be determined by the group with the monitor. Explore the beauty, power, and elegance of the horse. Students will work from life, while learning various modeling techniques and methods in terra cotta and plastaline. Other mediums such as stone and wood can be used as well. All methods and techniques will be demonstrated. For beginning students and those with experience.

CERAMICS
INFORMATION & OPEN STUDIO
Class enrollments are limited to 12 to afford everyone an electric wheel. Studio & firing fees cover the use of the studio, glazes, firings and your first bag of clay. Additional clay may be purchased at CSS as follows: $16 for a 25# bag of stoneware, terra cotta and porcelain. Tool kits are available at $15.
Open Studio Hours from July 5 through August 14 are Tuesday, 1 to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tech support is available during most open studio times to insure that students are getting proper instruction. Open studio requires a registration fee of $20.00 and is available to students enrolled in a class.

This class offers something for everyone with some clay experience to the advanced student. We will learn more about using the potter’s wheel and work on the basic skills that will allow you to create your own personal pottery. For those who have been in class before we will continue to focus on individual projects and continue our discussion of form and function. We will also continue to master the glazing process by familiarizing ourselves with the cone 6 glazes. Ongoing demonstrations and lively discussions about pottery are sure to make for an enjoyable and productive session. The intimae class size at the studio allows for plenty of individual attention form the instructor and the sharing of information among students. New students welcome! Limit 12.

This is a comprehensive course in acquiring the skills for hand-building based on the way clay really behaves. In this highly individualized class we will focus on the Hand as the most adaptable and intelligent tool for making work never dreamed of at the potter’s wheel. We will learn how to work with slabs, pinch, stretch, texture to support and seduce the clay into taking the forms we want. This is a class for people who want to learn from the clay, and each other. Your own hand is a “skeleton key” to unlock the way to any form you can imagine. Plates, bowls, figures…its is all in your hands. Limit 8.
