Art Classes for Children, Families and Teens

Welcome to “Creativity Abounds All Year Round at Yellow Springs”. Art classes are available in Clay, Drawing, Painting and more. Classes are small for individual attention and encouragement by our professional artists and art education instructors. All materials and supplies are included in the tuition of each class. The Library is open until 6pm each day if you would like to wait for students in classes.

MONDAYS

Mixed Media Masterpieces
Ages: 9 to 12
Instructor: Carol Gannon
Length: 8 weeks

Using art fundamentals and our imaginations, we will be making 2-D and 3-D masterpieces using a variety of materials while learning some new techniques.

Creative Clay
Ages: 6 to 8
Instructor: Jessica Greet
Length: 8 weeks

Using stories and imagination as inspiration, we will create ceramic objects including usable pots and fanciful sculptures. Possible projects include seasonal mobiles, bird baths, memory mugs and more. Through this exploration, students will learn basic ceramic methods such as pinch, slab and coil pots, rolling cylinders, altering shapes and applying surface textures and colors.

WEDNESDAYS

Young Artist Survey
Ages: 6 to 8
Instructor: Carol Gannon
Length: 8 weeks

This is a class for young artists to explore various media. Classes will include drawing, painting, printmaking and   sculpture. Projects will incorporate the elements and principles of art, famous artists, observation and self-exploration.

Fun and Functional Ceramics
Ages: 9 to 12
Instructor: Susan Bankert
Length: 8 weeks

We will make a variety of projects to help keep you warm this winter, including hot chocolate mugs and fancy bowls for your favorite soup. Students will learn basics ceramic methods such as pinch, slab and coil pots and further embellish those using stamps, textures and colorful slips.

Op Art, Pop Art and More

We will look at the art of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Indiana and others and create our own modern art pieces. Come and learn about the cool, hip world of modern art.

Fun with Fiber

Learn how to spin wool into fiber then use that wool to create a weaving. Time permitting we will do finger knitted flowers to enhance our woven piece.
