Job Purpose: Arts Program Director
The Arts Program Director is responsible for overseeing all public facing community arts programming at Historic Yellow Springs. This role involves collaborating with staff to ensure students and participants are successful in enrolling, participating, and achieving advertised outcomes in the community art programs at Historic Yellow Springs. Daily tasks include answering telephone inquiries, scheduling and interacting with teachers, using web and software based channels to communicate and register participants for classes, and more. The following Duties and Responsibilities highlight the base expectations of the role while offering guidelines about new opportunities for growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate arts programming at Historic Yellow Springs.
    • Schedule, oversee and facilitate four semesters of art classes and one season of summer camps for target age groups.
      • Space scheduling.
      • Drafting course descriptions, including camp.
      • Inventory management and ordering supplies for classes as needed.
    • Oversee classroom materials and setup needs to ensure adequate preparation for effective programming.
    • Recruit, hire, and oversee contracted art faculty, summer camp staff, and live models in accordance with organizational policies and state requirements.
    • Oversee and implement workshops based on a clear plan of artistic growth and economic viability.
    • Oversee studio budget components including contributing to the annual budget conversation, and managing studio spending in cooperation with the Ceramics Studio Supervisor.
  2. Facilitate Arts Programming customer service, associated software, and necessary reporting.
    • Input term programming into online class registration software.
    • Be available during designated hours for customer communication involved with classes and class registration.
    • Be responsive to customer needs in facilitating the registration, preparation and conclusion of the class experience.
    • Act as a designated point person for contact with teachers as needed for term, weather, and payment information.
    • Provide term programming reports as needed for board, audit, or finances.
  3. Grow and Promote Art Programming at Historic Yellow Springs.
    • Maintain a regular annual arts program calendar incorporating studio breaks and holidays to help build familiarity with offerings.
    • Assist in facilitating art department components for tours, public programming, and school programs.
    • Work with partner organizations to devise new offerings and grow reciprocal programming opportunities.
    • Develop promotional content for classes and distribute promotional material broadly for press releases, e-news, mailings, and website updates as needed.
    • Leverage program evaluations to enact growth and improvement.
  4. Be an engaged team member to promote personal growth and development of best practices across the organization.
    • Provide support for other organizational programs or activities as needed.
    • Attend meetings, trainings and key program events as determined by program staff.
    • Respond to emails and approval requests in a timely manner.
    • Maintain positive interactions in promotion and retention of Yellow Springs programs and activities.
    • Actively engage brainstorming and review exercises.

Job Purpose:
The Public Education and Promotions Manager plays a crucial role in coordinating and managing outward facing exhibitions, events, and programs at Historic Yellow Springs. This role focuses on collaboration with various departments to maximize the impact and help connect opportunities for our target audiences. The ideal person for this role will have a working knowledge of art processes, a curiosity that helps them see new ways of connecting topics, and a hunger for building community engagement in the arts. They will bring enthusiasm, innovative ideas, and strong organizational skills to the table, to help build trust through success. Effective communication, delegation of tasks, and proactive management of expectations are key factors for achieving success in this role.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Work in coordination with the Public Events and Promotions Manager to expand community connections and engage new audiences for signature community events.
    • Promote programs through schools, partners, and other community connected channels.
    • Coordinate with committees and volunteers to find new programming opportunities that cater to new audiences.
    • Act as a staff point person to facilitate events and ensure they are completed smoothly, working to facilitate any problems.
    • Analyze event’s successes and make recommendations for the following years.
  2. Coordinate and facilitate summer camp programming as part of a broader effort to engage youth and families throughout the year.
    • Work alongside the Arts Program Director in planning and scheduling summer programs.
    • Promote programs through schools, partners and other community connected channels.
    • Ensure camp materials and spaces are coordinated for maximum classroom success.
    • Act as a point person for teachers and participants to set clear expectations and facilitate a quality experience.
  3. Work in coordination with the Arts Program Manager and Ceramic Studio Supervisor to expand the impact of arts programming into the community.
    • Assist in studios to help ensure materials and spaces are coordinated for maximum classroom success.
    • Engage in studio culture and contribute to the expectations and outcomes of the studio.
    • Contribute new opportunities to engage new audiences in the create making process.

Job Summary:
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the 140-acre grounds and gardens of Historic Yellow Springs. This role involves overseeing the upkeep of the landscape, ensuring its safety and aesthetics, and coordinating with external vendors for necessary maintenance.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Grounds and Trail Maintenance:
    • Oversee the maintenance, appearance, and well-being of HYS primary 8 acre grounds.
    • Mow for grass maintenance, leaf blowing, and grounds preparation as needed.
    • Ensure seasonal maintenance of property hiking trails and markers for safety quarterly.
    • Coordinate with contractors when necessary.
  2. Gardening and Cultivation:
    • Coordinate with garden clubs for the upkeep of decorative beds.
    • Purchase flowers and other items for maintenance and upkeep as necessary.
    • Weed and cultivate manicured gardens based on new or existing knowledge about plans for best outcome and experience.
    • Coordinate with contractors when necessary.
  3. Event and Rental Preparations:
    • Proactively coordinate and prepare spaces for scheduled events, weddings, rentals, and programming.
    • Set up and remove physical aspects within the space (tables, chairs).
    • Prepare campus for seasonal events in coordination with lead committees.
    • Coordinate with on-site program staff and faculty as needed.
  4. Team Engagement and Personal Growth:
    • Provide program support for other departments or activities.
    • Attend meetings, training, and key program events as determined by program staff.
    • Respond to emails and approval requests promptly.
    • Maintain positive interactions to promote and retain Yellow Springs programs and activities.
    • Actively engage brainstorming and review exercises.

Job Title: Figure Model

Historic Yellow Springs seeks to hire part-time art class models for fine art classes during the 2023-2024 academic year. Applications will be received on an ongoing basis and reviewed as need arises.
