Learn the art of Ikebana—the ancient Japanese art form of floral arrangement. The translation of the word “ikebana” means “Living Flowers” or “Making Flowers Came Alive.” Ikebana is learned by practicing a set of principles that determine stem placement, scale and choice of container. The result is a stunning and distinct style of floral arrangement. Classes include demonstrations, vocabulary, and hands-on participation. Students learn how to prepare and condition materials, develop compositions, the mechanics of assembling components, and the fine art of showing the beauty of the flower, branch and leaf without any one element competing with the others. Each week students will bring home an ikebana arrangement of their own creation. When floral composition and arranging follows the principles of ikebana the resulting arrangement is one of sculpted elegance. Material list is provided below.

Pick a master painting, or a style of interest to you, and instructor Adrian Martinez will work with you to analyze that technique while you complete your own painting—applying your own vision in this five-week course. As in his usual practice, Adrian will also paint his version of a particular style as a demonstration in class along with students. Students may choose to paint in the studio or en plein air.
